Community First Web Terms and Conditions

This page explains how Community First Web works in plain English so groups can understand the offer before applying.

1. Purpose of the initiative

Community First Web is designed to support community groups by helping them create a simple website where people can easily find information about their activities and how to get involved.

The initiative is intended for community-focused organisations rather than standard commercial businesses. Applications are reviewed to make sure the project is a good fit.

2. Eligibility

The offer is designed for:

  • Community groups
  • Volunteer-led initiatives
  • Charities and non-profit projects
  • Youth clubs and kids activity groups
  • Sports clubs and dance groups
  • Arts, music, and hobby groups
  • Parent groups and support groups
  • Local community events or programmes

Some organisations may charge small membership or activity fees, and that is acceptable where the organisation exists mainly to support community participation.

Applications from typical commercial businesses may be declined.

3. Monthly capacity

Community First Web supports a limited number of projects each month. Around three groups are usually supported per month to keep the service manageable and sustainable.

If all places are filled, applications may be scheduled for a future month. Sending an application does not guarantee acceptance.

4. Website setup cost

A one-off setup cost of £10 applies. This helps cover the cost of setting up the website and registering a domain name if one is required.

This fee is payable once a group confirms they would like to proceed.

5. Domain names

If the organisation does not already have a domain name, a domain may be registered as part of the setup process.

If the organisation already owns a domain, this can usually be used instead.

Domain names are typically registered for one year and must be renewed annually if the website continues to operate.

6. Hosting and email

Website hosting and one email account are included free for the first three months after the website goes live.

After the free period, hosting is optional at £5 per month if the organisation wishes the website to remain online.

If hosting is not continued after the free period, the website will be taken offline.

7. Website scope

Websites created through this initiative are simple informational websites designed to help visitors understand the group and how to get involved.

Typical content may include:

  • Information about the group
  • Activities or session details
  • Location information
  • Contact details
  • Basic pages explaining the organisation

More complex features such as booking systems, online shops, or advanced custom functionality are not included in this offer.

8. Content responsibility

The organisation applying is responsible for providing the information needed for the site, such as:

  • Text about the group
  • Images or logos if available
  • Activity or event information
  • Contact details

Content provided must be appropriate and lawful.

9. Approval before launch

A preview of the website will normally be shared before it goes live so the organisation can review the information and request small corrections if needed.

10. Changes and updates

Minor changes may be possible during the initial setup stage.

Ongoing updates after the website is live may require a hosting plan or a separate support arrangement.

11. Right to decline

D.C Computing Services reserves the right to decline applications that are not suitable for the Community First Web initiative.

This may include projects that are mainly commercial or outside the intended scope of the programme.

12. Changes to the initiative

Community First Web may evolve over time, and these terms may be updated to reflect improvements or changes to the service.

If you are ready to apply, you can return to the Community First Web application page.
